The achievements for this game can be broken down in to two parts. They should only take 2-3 hours to. This enhanced version of the artistic software package uDraw Studio brings the core functions of the uDraw GameTablet to life on your television. UDraw Studio: Instant Artist offers expansive guided tutorials to teach many of the basics of art and design, as well as a more intuitive interface that keeps art tools right on screen at all times. The Art School features 15 new tutorials run by your personal art tutor, the rather camp Remmy. The blue wire attaching the stylus also seems easy to break, particularly with boisterous younger users. The Instant Artist package comes bundled with the tablet and the game is essentially split into two main sections - art lessons and freestyle drawing. THQ has ensured overall build quality on the tablet is solid, but there is a plastic feel to it that is a little off-putting. The product also has internal accelerometers for certain motion-sensitive games.

Instant Artist is certainly not up there with the most sophisticated art programmes, but the variety of available options will appeal to the casual gaming market. But more confident artists can go straight into the Art Play for making freestyle creations using a variety of different tools and features. You start by selecting the material that you want to work on, including canvas, wood or just a plain white background. They can also be shared online via the uDraw website, although we found a few problems with uploads failing or only partially being sent to the site.Alongside the drawing and painting, Instant Artist also features Art Camp, offering seven mini-games and activities linked to the tablet's functionality. All the marvellous masterpieces that you create can be showcased in the gallery section using a range of different formats, such as the front of a fridge, a museum and on a billboard on the side of a building. A brush properties menu also changes the nature of the lines, such as the 'opacity pressure', meaning that the stylus nip is made hypersensitive, so the stroke becomes more opaque with the less pressure exerted.Art works can be modified with different animated backgrounds, music tracks and also your signature stamp to denote your own unique work (useful for future identification on the Antiques Roadshow). For example, the crayon actually looks like crayon, having that slight waxiness to the stroke. A huge range of visual effects is available to jazz up your picture, including animated stamps and symbols.THQ has done a great job of recreating the different textures of each art material. One player in each team must take the clue item (which can be changed if required) and then draw a picture on the screen indicating what the clue is, with their teammates attempting to guess the answer under a time limit. These mini-games, inspired heavily by iPhone games, are nice little extras that will not hold older gamers' attention for long, but are perfect for keeping younger minds busy for hours. We also tried out Pictionary for the uDraw tablet, which works by sweeping across the touchscreen to roll the dice before moving around the board. The Tilt Maze uses the tablet's motion-sensitive internal accelerometers to guide a little ball around a maze, the trick being that you have to run through paint splodges and if you take too long trying to find the way to the next paint splodge, the colour runs out.Alien Splat turns the stylus point into a fly swatter for splatting little alien creatures in colourful splats, before taking on an end of level boss. Ultimately, though, the long-term success of the uDraw will probably depend on the quality of the available new software, meaning it's now up to the development studios to get creative and make this purchase worthwhile. Creating works of art is simple and effective, with a pleasing range of options that will suit the real beginners and casual artists.Add in the art lessons and the selection of mini-games, and you have a package of reasonable quality, particularly for the family market. The touchscreen does add a new dimension to gameplay, particularly when used with Instant Artist.
